Above the Fold Entrecard Blogs
While browsing Entrecard sites, I have noticed something that I would like to address. There are a lot of Entrecarders out there who put their cards in a location that really makes a dropper try to find it.
Now, I get the idea that they are trying to get me to look at their ads. I’m not saying that I don’t look around these sites, I do. It just makes me feel like the ads are being forced upon me instead of being a helpful link to something. Most times they are not even relative to the content I am looking at – in any way.
In turn, I have begun to collect a list of Entrecarders who have decided to locate their cards in a great location – above the fold. Here is the list: Sabra Duffiney’s 300 Drops.

Hello.
I think my entrecard is above the fold…. with my resolution it is :=)
Awesome, I’ll keep checking back because I enjoy your site
I will be adding more to this above the fold list in the future.
I can understand why many would prefer above the fold placement of EC widgets but this also encourages a higher bounce rate, which is frowned upon by Google and usually results in penalisation. However there is a way to avoid forcing every blog to raise the prominence of Entrecard, leave you free to read blogs at your leisure, plus it’s rather simple to use if anyone is interested. First you will need a Firefox browser and the Greasemonkey addon available at here. Next install the Entrecard script here – now turn on Greasemonkey and every single Entrecard widget will appear at the top left corner of the browser window. When you are done dropping turn off Greasemonkey and it will return to normal! This way you can choose when you wish all widgets to be above the fold without having to make a list!
Sabra, kudos to you for having your card above the crease. You are on my All Above The Crease Droplist on Blogs With Wings. I try to update this list once per week and include only sites whose cards are above the fold. I keep 320 sites on the list to ensure that even if we loose a few during the week there are enough for a full 300 drops.
Great man. I check other article and they are all first class.
The widget is hideous, though. That’s definitely something I consider. I try to keep mine above the fold on my review site but sometimes? There’s just other more important stuff.
Regardless, there’s so many sites listed that don’t display the widgets, period. Lame
I do agree that at times there are more important things. Sometimes an ad campaign takes higher priority or it just does not fit right into the design. On the other hand, it would be nice if Entrecard offered more display styles or the ability to modify the way it looks yourself.
On the no widget issue, I have had drops in my inbox and went to their site only to find none as well. I can’t stand that. My question is, how are they allowed to drop when their widget is not yet approved or is non-existent? Entrecard has the ability to see if your widget is active or not.
As Mikeeessongs points out correctly, it depends on your screen resolution if the entrecard widget is above the fold for any blog. With a high enough screen resolution any position will be above the fold. I don’t really see why it matters anyways, if you use firefox you just take the entrecard greasemonkey extension and all entrecards widgets come above the fold automatically.
When they’re too hard to find, I move on…so they’re not gaining anything by not following the rules. When they’re at the bottom and I happen to find them, I report them as that’s not suppose to be allowed. If they think so little of EC they put it at the bottom, then why not delete it all together and not use EC?
I agree with Sabra, I too have had drops on me, go to their site and they have no widget; here too I report them. Whether anything becomes of my report or not…I don’t know. But, if I’m following the rules I do expect others to as well.

Sandy – 100% agree.
Benjamin – It does depend on screen resolution. The average standard size is 1024×728 pixels. This is what I have based the “above the fold” list from. I mainly only list blogs that have them at the top of their column or page, since this is the easiest to identify no matter what your resolution is set to. Yes, there is the greasemonkey extention, but some people who are running blogs – no matter how easy it can be for others – can’t figure out how to utilize those kind of tools easily. Beginners especially.
Hi there, feel free to add mine =) thanks!
Thanks for adding, appreciate being on your list. I’m bookmarking your site so I can find you again easily.
Do swing by for a visit, the welcome mats always out.

Most EC members placed their EC widget on the side panel. Those placing it at the bottom are trying to get the visitors (you guys) to scroll down and hunt for it. That delay tactic is to ensure that the visitor stay on the page for at least 3-5 seconds in order to improve their Bounce Rate.
Very good point, but it is an ineffective technique when the user abandons the site because it is taking too long or they have scrolled farther than they would like to.
Hi Sabra,
I have tried a lot of drop lists and decided to make my own too.
I have collected sites with widgets in the same area of the page and all above the fold. (common laptop resolution)
This way you can use repetitive hand eye movements to speed up drops.
I made easy to use buttons that remain depressed so you know where you are in the list.
I did include your site as well. (click on the first button)

Good luck and happy dropping,

Thank you. I appreciate that a lot and that’s a really cool tool!
I don’t put my Entrecard widget on above the fold because most of the droppers are drop-and-run. In order to catch attention (though not really proven method) is to place the card on the bottom , so the eye is on the content first. This is what my platform host suggested and it’s working for me (I think).
I also placed the widgets that are most relevant to me—my social networking badges and content badges and of course, the ads , rather than Entrecard—where I don’t gain anything except reciprocal traffic.
Very true! I make it a point that my EC badge is above the fold. Thanks for dropping by!
hi sabra…
would you like to add my blog to the list..?
I also located my entrecard on the top
feel free to check it to my blog
Very nice of you to give some recognition to those who deserve it. There are few things more annoying than waiting unbearably for a page to load due to all the ads, and have to search and weed through them all to find the entrecard.
I still can’t get it how will I do my Entrecard on fold.
My EC is above the fold
What CMS are you using to run your blog? (ex: wordpress, blogger, etc.)
Yeah, it makes it difficult when the EC widget blends in to 25 ads, or my favorite is when the ad is a fake EC widget
I noticed that some those who put their widget above the crease are also the same bloggers who do not drop much often. Hence, I rely more on my list of droppers and I used the entrecard tool to confirm their level of activity. I don’t mind if all my droppers have their widgets at the bottom of the page, as long as they return my drops on them.
Cheers!

Indeed it was extremely interesting for me to read this blog. Thanks for it. I like such themes and anything connected to them. I would like to read a bit more on that blog soon.
I like the approach you took with this subject. It’s not typical that you simply discover a subject so concise and enlightening.
Nice article. Thank you for this info.
Once again, your idea is very good. thank you very much!
